We cut this lightweight rain jacket from a dense polyester shell that packs down flat into a daypack. The front closes with a full zipper, flanked by two covered pockets. Drawcords at the hood and lower hem let you cinch the opening against gusts, while narrow elastic bands keep the wrists in place.

Hood and drawcord

The three-panel hood extends over the brow and tightens with twin cord locks at the neck. Cinching the cord pulls the opening close around the face so wind does not catch the brim.

Elastic wrist cuffs

We finished each sleeve with an enclosed elastic band that grips the wrist lightly. It keeps the cuff seated over gloves and stops drafts from running up the arm when you move.

Hem and zipper

A full-length front zipper runs from the waist to the chin. Along the bottom hem, an internal drawcord lets you pull the fabric tight against your waist to block drafts from underneath.

Pockets and packability
