We sew this baby bucket hat from lightweight polyester fabric that sheds water and dries fast on a line. The crown is lined with an airy mesh to let heat escape. A wide circular brim casts shade around the head without flopping over the eyes.

Wide circular brim

The brim holds its flat shape without stiff wiring, throwing shade across the face, ears, and neck. It folds down flat into a diaper bag or stroller pocket and pops back out without creasing.

Airy mesh lining

Inside the crown, we layer a fine open-mesh fabric that keeps the outer shell off the scalp. Air moves through the knit freely during hot summer afternoons.

Adjustable chin strap

A soft under-chin tie adjusts with a small toggle so the hat stays put during stroller rides and windy walks. A second cinch at the back of the crown fine-tunes the circumference.

Quick-drying fabric
